Description
We present the first microscopic model, which allows to describe the formation of charmonia in ultrarelativistic heavy ion collisions. We follow the heavy quarks from their initial production in hard collisions, followed by their passage through the quark gluon plasma where the heavy quarks interact with the plasma constituents and among themselves with a potential obtained by lattice gauge calculations. We apply the density matrix formalism to study how charmonia disintegrate and the heavy quarks form charmonia during the passage through the QGP. We finally compare the results with data.
